IYWC
Library and Information Centre
The
Centre is an initiative of the Youth Work Ireland, providing an
information, library & training supports service to youth
and community workers throughout the country. It acts as a one-stop
research and documentation centre developed to respond to the
varied information, research and training support needs of those
who work in the field. The Centre was officially opened in 1992
and since then has established itself as the leading information
and resource Centre for youth related issues. The Centre has continued
to develop both in terms of the resources available and the services
on offer to youth workers.
Library
Service
Membership
is open to all; to join simple fill out the form (link below)
and return to the address specified. Membership can be taken out
individually or as part of a group. Membership is valid for one
year.
Members can borrow up to four items on loan for a period of two
weeks, with the option of extending, providing the item has not
been requested by another. For members outside of Dublin, items
can be posted out with the members incurring the charges if significant.

NATIONAL
YOUTH ARTS PROGRAMME LIBRARY

The
National Youth Arts Programme is now housed in the IYWC. This collection
of publications has been compiled by the National Youth Arts Programme
(NYAP), an initiative of the National Youth Council of Ireland,
to provide research material for all those interested in youth arts
practice in Ireland. The Youth Arts Library includes a wide range
of publications dating back over 25 years relating to youth arts
both in Ireland and abroad. These include government policy and
strategy documents, project and programme evaluations, research
reports, conference reports, practical guides to using various art
forms, working with young people, setting up art programmes etc.,
and theoretical books looking at various methodologies and philosophical
frameworks for youth arts. It also contains all youth arts publications
published by the National Youth Arts Programme. The collection is
regularly updated - if you are aware of any relevant publications
not contained in the collection, please contact the NYAP with details.

Research,
Study & Internet Bay Facility
|
The
IYWC Research & Study Facility was established in 2004 as
a response to the needs of youth and community workers, students
and academics. The Research facility is run in conjunction with
the IYWC library and provides an ideal location to access reports,
publications, government legislation, training materials &
periodicals within the peaceful surrounds of a modern study area.
It can accommodate up to 10/12 people at a time and study groups
are welcome.
In
2006 the IYWC extended the research facility to include Internet
Bay PCs. These also include Word Packages such as Word, Excel
and PowerPoint. This service is opened normal library hours, time
slots can be booked in advance on an hourly basis 01-8729933.
You do not have to be a member of the IYWC to use the research
facility and Internet bays.
The
Research Facility is open Monday - Friday 9.30am-5pm (closed 1pm-2pm
for lunch)

IYWC
has run more than 50 sucessful seminars, training events and conferences
to date. The events have tended to focus on youth & community
based issues such as Young Refugees, Sexuality, Suicide, Anger Management
and Substance Abuse.
There is also a focus on practical training tools for youth and
community workers, such as supervision and facilitation skills.
A full
catalogue of events is available from the Centre along with training
materials from previously held training days.

IYWC
has its own publishing label the Irish YouthWork Press, which
has produced over 50 publications to date, including a wide range
of reports, guidelines and training manuals.
These publications are aimed primarily at youth workers with the
research topics chosen specifically due to either lack of alternative
reserach, or a recognised demand by workers in the field.
IYWC
is also the official Irish sales agent for the UK publishing houses
Russell House Publishing, Nightshift Publications & Directory
of Social Change. We hold a wide range of their publications on
site for purchase.
